HBO confirmed the casting of John Lithgow (The Crown) as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer (The White Queen) as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You) as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz) as Rubeus Hagrid, after it was previously reported they’re in talks to join the show. The cast will also include Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.

Francesca Gardiner, showrunner and executive producer, and Mark Mylod, director of multiple episodes and executive producer, released an official statement announcing the show’s cast, adding, “We’re delighted to have such extraordinary talent onboard, and we can’t wait to see them bring these beloved characters to new life.”

Based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series, HBO’s new take on Harry Potter has been described as “a faithful adaptation”, which will explore every corner of the Wizarding World. It centers on a young man named Paul, whose enduring love for a girl he’ll meet repeatedly over the years is punctuated by random encounters with men.

Jones is also joining them as one of the producers alongside her brother and producing partner Alexander Jones under their Piecrust Pictures banner. Tony To and Dan Sackheim are serving as executive producers for Bedrock, along with Philippe Maigret for ITV Studios America.
