The Crown and Ted Lasso topped the list of nominees at this year’s Emmy Awards, so it wasn’t much of a surprise to see them pick up more awards than any other show. Netflix’s royal drama walked away with seven shiny trophies, while Apple TV+ comedy picked up a total of four.
It was a big night for the cast of The Crown, as its stars Josh O’Connor, Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies, and Gillian Anderson walked away with acting awards in their respective categories. The royal drama was also crowned as the best drama series and won awards for outstanding directing and writing for a drama series.
Ted Lasso was the biggest winner in the comedy categories, with four awards. In addition to the trophy for the outstanding comedy series, it won three acting awards thanks to its stars Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, and Brett Goldstein. HBO Max series Hacks was a close second with a total of three awards – including Jean Smart’s win for outstanding lead actress.
HBO scored another big victory with Mare of Easttown. Its stars Kate Winslet, Evan Peters, and Julianne Nicholson picked up acting awards for their performances, but the show itself failed to win the award for outstanding limited or anthology series, which was picked up by The Queen’s Gambit.
The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards returned to CBS on September 19th, with Cedric the Entertainer hosting the ceremony.
