Shōgun came into this year’s Emmy Awards as one of the front-runners, and it managed to exceed everyone’s wildest expectations. After leading the list of nominees with 25 nods, FX’s historical drama managed to win a total of 18 trophies—the most by any show in the history of this ceremony.

Shōgun came into the Primetime Emmy Awards with 14 trophies from the Creative Arts Emmy Award a week prior, and awards just kept coming. It was honored with four more trophies at the main event, including the outstanding drama series, for a total of 18 wins, making history as the most coveted series at the Emmys in a single year.

Shōgun emerged as the clear winner in the drama field, but the race was much more intense in the comedy categories. Despite topping the list of winners with four major awards and making history as the most-awarded comedy series in a single year with 11 trophies, The Bear lost the outstanding comedy series award to Hacks.

As for the limited and anthology series, Baby Reindeer led the way with four major awards. It was named the the outstanding limited or anthology series, while its stars Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning collected acting awards in their respective fields.

The 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards aired live on ABC from Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 15, with Eugene Levy and Dan Levy hosting the festivities.
