The final season of Succession was always going to be a major player at the Golden Globes, but it managed to exceed our wildest expectations. HBO’s acclaimed series scored nine nominations, making history as the most-nominated TV show in a single year.

Succession is the main contender for the coveted best drama series award, but it will have to beat tough competition to take it home. Paramount’s 1923, Netflix’s The Crown and The Diplomat, HBO’s The Last of Us, and Apple TV’s The Morning Show are also in the running for this award.

Succession is also a major contender in acting categories, with its stars Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, Matthew Macfadyen, Alan Ruck, Alexander Skarsgård, and J. Smith-Cameron all receiving acting nods for their respective performances.

Succession is the only show in the Golden Globe history to ever walk away with nine nods in a single year. The record had previously been held by L.A. Law and The Thorn Birds with eight nominations each.

As for the comedy field, FX’s The Bear and Only Murders in the Building both scored five nods, including best musical or comedy series, alongside ABC’s Abbott Elementary, HBO’s Barry, Amazon Freevee’s Jury Duty, and Apple TV’s Ted Lasso.

The Golden Globe winners will be announced on January 7, 2024 at Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.
