Season 6 kicked off with a big change for everyone. The whole of Litchfield were transported to maximum security where life is extremely different and a lot less comfortable. The season finale, however, revealed another three big twists for three of our favourite characters.
Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson
Much of Season 6 revolves around the trial of Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson for the murder of CO Piscatella. Despite the support of the Black Lives Matter activists and of course, the fact she is innocent, the jury come to the verdict that she is guilty. At the end of the episode she is marched back to maximum security where we can tragically assume she will carry out a life sentence for a crime she didn’t commit.
Blanca Flores
During the past three seasons, we have really warmed to Flores and were happy when we learned that she would be released. The end of episode 13 showed Flores revealing the news they could try for a baby in person to her lover, Diablo who is seen waiting for her with a bouquet of flowers when the prisoners are released.
Things didn’t work out that way and after learning about “Polycon’s” new immigration business, all hope is shattered when Blanca is loaded into an ICE Truck. Whether Diablo or us as an audience will see Flores again is uncertain.
Piper Chapman
Although Piper gets on most people nerves, in season 6 we did start to sympathise with her as like many other members of Litchfield, maximum security clearly isn’t the right place for her. At the end of episode 12 after she marries Alex in a touching wedding scene, we learn that she will be released. The season ends with her successfully leaving the prison to start her life as a free woman while Alex carries out the rest of her sentence.
