Grey’s Anatomy is one of those shows that have been around forever, and it’s not going away anytime soon. ABC renewed its longest-running primetime show for Season 19, and here’s what the next chapter of this beloved medical drama has in store.

Pompeo is Back

Grey’s Anatomy simply wouldn’t work without Meredith Grey, and the show’s renewal was announced after Ellen Pompeo agreed to get on board. She signed a new one-year deal with ABC, and she’ll also return as one of the show’s executive producers.

Future Plotlines

The masterminds behind this show were pretty vague when discussing the plotlines for the upcoming season. Dana Walden, chairman of entertainment at Walt Disney Television, said that the new season will “unlock new, untold stories that will continue to focus on modern medicine, tackle the issues that shape the world around us, and resonate deeply with loyal fans for years to come.”

Another Season?

Season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy wasn’t announced as the show’s last, but the ending of this series might be on the horizon. Pompeo was very vocal about her desire to bring Grey’s Anatomy to a close, but we’re yet to see what the future has in store until she decides to hang up her scrubs.
