Andre Braugher, the two-time Emmy-winning actor, who solidified his reputation as a powerhouse TV actor in the past three decades, died at 61 after a brief illness. We’re honoring his legacy by looking back at some of his best TV roles, from Homicide to Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Homicide: Life on the Street

Braugher’s rise to prominence started when he was cast as Detective Frank Pembleton in Homicide: Life on the Street. The brilliant, yet eccentric detective quickly grew into the show’s signature character and won Braugher his first Emmy Award.

This short-lived crime series from 2006 saw Braugher play a master thief trying to balance his personal life with his most recent heist, and it won him his second Emmy Award.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Braugher showed the world his funny side as Captain Raymond Holt in the comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. He brought a perfect balance of calm stoicism and humor to the character which quickly grew into one of the fan favorites.

Men of a Certain Age

Before Brooklyn Nine-Nine put him back on the map, Braugher got a chance to polish his comedy skills in this series about three men in their 40s dealing with the reality of being middle-aged.

Gideon’s Crossing

Braugher showed his capacity to excel in different genres in this medial drama, which marked his first leading TV role after Homicide ended its run.
