American Horror Story has run for seven seasons so far and has bought us countless murders, gory and horrifying tortures and concepts so disturbing they kept us up all night. Here are five facts about the show you probably didn’t know that might change the way you see the series.

The Murder House in season one is a real home

The Murder House is actually a real home in La known as the Rosenheim Mansion. It was 4also used in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dexter and the X-files. The people who live there must have nerves of steel.

AHS: Hotel is based on a true story

The seasons which features some of the shows most torturous murders is actually inspired by a hotel built in Chicago. H.H. Holmes built the hotel with the intent of murdering his guests and keeping their bodies in the many hiding places in the hotel.

Evan Peters flashed his co-stars during a shower scene

While getting hosed down in “Asylum”, Evan Petters accidentally flashed Sarah Paulson and Jessica Lange.

The circus ‘freaks’ in season four are based on real performers
Some of the most colourful characters feature on this season and many of them were based on real circus performers. Evan Peter’s character was inspired by Grady Stiles Jr who was nicknamed ‘Lobster Man’ who suffered from a real condition which made is hands and feet resemble claws.

The disappearance of the Roanoke colony is still a mystery 

In 1587, a real Roanoke colony came to the US to populate the ‘New World.’ Three years later, however, the entire town and all its inhabitants disappeared without a trace. The unexplained disappearance remains a mystery to this day.
