9-1-1 will soon hit the 100-episode count, and ABC is celebrating this milestone in style. The future of the first responder drama is looking bright after it moved from Fox to ABC for Season 7, and it’s just been renewed for Season 8.

9-1-1 was initially created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear for Fox, and it centers on a group of first responders working for LAPD, ranging from police officers and paramedics to firefighters and dispatchers. ABC picked up the show’s seventh season following Fox’s cancelation, and this proved to be the right decision.

Season 7 premiere of 9-1-1 attracted approximately 11.8 million multiplatform viewers after seven days of availability, becoming one of ABC’s most-watched current series across all platforms. Renewing it for Season 8 was a no-brainer, and ABC decided to do it just days before the show’s 100th episode airs on Thursday.

9-1-1 owes its success to its amazing cast, which includes the likes of Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Oliver Stark, Kenneth Choi, Aisha Hinds, Ryan Guzman, and Gavin McHugh.

Despite canceling 9-1-1, Fox is still airing its spin-off series 9-1-1: Lone Star, which was also created by Murphy, Falchuk, and Minear. Its fifth season is on the way, and it’s expected to premiere on Fox this fall.
