Love, Simon proved to be a hit on the big screen, and now it’s heading to the small screen.
Disney+ is creating a series version for its new streaming service set in the same universe as the 2018 film.
The original is based on the novel Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda about a closeted high school student dealing with a blackmailer attempting to out him, while also trying to figure out the identity of the guy he has fallen in love with online.
Movie screenwriters Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger will act as co-showrunners on the series that has already cast Michael Cimino of Training Day.
According to the show’s logline, Cimino will star as Victor: “a new student at Creekwood High School on his own journey of self-discovery, who is facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city, and struggling with his sexual orientation. When it all seems too much, he reaches out to Simon to help him navigate the ups and downs of high school.”
Nick Robinson, who starred as Simon in the film, will narrate the series, while Ana Ortiz, James Martinez, Isabella Ferreira, Mateo Fernandez, Johnny Sequoyah, Bebe Wood, George Sear, Anthony Turpel, and Mason Gooding have all been confirmed to star.
