It’s been a while since we’ve gotten an amazing crossover episode, and two of our favorite sitcoms will soon revisit this beloved TV format. Stars of Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia took to social media to confirm they’re working on a long-rumored crossover episode.
Quinta Brunson posed with Sunny stars Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day on the set of Abbott Elementary, confirming they’re partnering up. McElhenney fueled the rumors about the crossover episode by sharing photos with his co-star Danny DeVito and Abbott stars Tyler James Williams and William Stanford Davis.
McElhenney first floated the idea earlier this year when he described the controversial Willy’s Chocolate Experience in Glasgow as something that feels straight out of an Abbott/Sunny crossover. Rumors about a potential Abbott crossover started circling around a few months later, and fans suggested they’ll be partnering up with Sunny because both shows are set in Philadelphia.
Brunson added more fuel to the fire during an interview with Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, where she confirmed that the crossover is in the works.
“You want to find fun ways to shake things up without abandoning what you built. I’m excited to just shake things up in this way… I miss those big TV moments. I remember how exciting they were. Anything I can do with Abbott to help keep that culture alive of fun TV, I will do,” she told Variety.
