Abbott Elementary is one of the most critically acclaimed rookie comedies of the past year and major awards are finally coming its way. The list of TCA Awards is in and ABC’s critically acclaimed comedy topped it with a total of four wins.

Abbott Elementary was up against tough competition for the biggest award of the night—the program of the year. Better Call Saul, Hacks, Severance, Squid Game, Succession, The White Lotus, and Yellowjackets were also in the running, but they couldn’t stand their ground against the ABC sitcom.

Abbott Elementary also came out victorious in three more categories: outstanding new program, outstanding achievement in comedy, and individual achievement in comedy. Quinta Brunson picked up the later award, beating her co-star Janelle James.

The show premiered on ABC back in December, and its second season is set to premiere on September 21, 2022. It centers on a group of teachers working in underfunded schools and trying to do their best with the limited resources they have at their disposal.

Abbott Elementary is turning out to be quite an awards darling, scoring seven Emmy nominations for its first season. It’s in the running for the outstanding comedy series award, while its stars Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, and Sheryl Lee Ralph received acting nods.
