Abbott Elementary and The White Lotus walked into this year’s Golden Globes as front-runners and walked away with the most awards by the end of the night. ABC’s acclaimed sitcom collected three accolades, while HBO’s satirical anthology series picked up two trophies.
Abbott Elementary defeated the likes of The Bear, Hacks, Wednesday, and Only Murders in the Building to be named the best television series: musical or comedy. Its stars Quinta Brunson and Tyler James Williams won acting awards in their respective categories.
It was also a big night for HBO’s The White Lotus, which was named the best limited or anthology series, while its star Jennifer Coolidge won a trophy for its supporting performance. This wasn’t the only big win for HBO: House of the Dragon was also named the best television series: drama, while Zendaya won another trophy for Euphoria.
Most of the winners in the TV field were pretty expected, from Amanda Seyfried in The Dropout to Julia Garner in Ozark. One of the night’s most pleasant surprises came when Jeremy Allen White picked up a trophy for the rookie series The Bear. Kevin Costner’s win for Yellowstone was also somewhat of a shocker, considering the tough competition.
The 80th Golden Globe Awards returned to the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California on January 10, with Jerrod Carmichael hosting the ceremony for the first time.
