We haven’t seen Ty Burrell land a major TV role ever since Modern Family ended its run, but it’s about time that changed. The Emmy-winning actor is getting ready to lead the sitcom Forgive and Forget after ABC gave this series a pilot order.

Burrell will play Hank, an offbeat character who’s been described as “a life of the party.” He’s forced to change his ways after getting an unexpected diagnosis, which leads him to reconnect with his responsible adult son Ben.

Eugene Garcia-Cross is writing the pilot for ABC, with Robin Shorr coming on board as showrunner. They’ll both executive produce Forgive and Forget along with Burrell via his Desert Whale Productions banner. This duo previously collaborated on Peacock’s Punky Brewster.

ABC is seriously getting back into the pilot game, and Forgive and Forget isn’t the only comedy pilot they’ve ordered recently. They’re also working on Shifting Gears starring Tim Allen, which marked their first pilot order of the season.

Forgive and Forget will mark Burrell’s first major live-action TV role since Modern Family came to an end in 2020 after 11 seasons. He most recently voiced the animated series Duncanville alongside Amy Poehler, which aired on Fox for three seasons.
