ABC announced the renewal of several hit shows in recent weeks, and The Rookie is the next one in line. Nathan Fillion and the rest of the gang will be back for another ride after ABC renewed this hit police procedural drama for its seventh season.

Fillion leads this series as John Nolan, who graduated from the Police Academy as the oldest rookie on the force. He then joins the LAPD as the oldest rookie in department history and must navigate the unpredictable and dangerous nature of his new job in his 40s.

The show’s sixth season premiered on ABC back in February, and here’s what it has in store, according to the network’s official logline:

“Nolan feels like it can’t get much better, now that his life with Bailey (Dewan) is moving forward, and he has chosen his career path. However, he and his team must grapple with the aftermath of their recent assaults before they can move forward.”

In addition to Fillion in the lead role, The Rookie also stars Mekia Cox, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O’Neil, Eric Winter, Jenna Dewan, Shawn Ashmore, Tru Valentino, and Lisseth Chavez.

Renewing The Rookie makes total sense for ABC given its strong Season 6 ratings, with the premiere episode attracting 11.92 million multi-platform viewers after 35 days of viewing.
