All Creatures Great and Small is shaping up to be quite a hit for Masterpiece, and they’re bringing it back for two more seasons. The adaptation of James Herriot’s beloved novels has been renewed for Season 5 and 6, each one featuring six new episodes.

All Creatures Great and Small centers on the adventures of a veterinary surgeon James Herriot (Nicholas Ralph), who runs a tiny countryside veterinarian in Yorkshire, England during the 1930s and 1940s. The upcoming seasons will see him return to Darrowby to join the Skeldale Family and the colorful ensemble of farmers and townsfolk living in Yorkshire.

In addition to Ralph in the lead role, Callum Woodhouse, Anna Madeley, Rachel Shenton, James Anthony-Rose, and Patricia Hodge are some of the cast members expected to return in Season 5.

Colin Callender, executive producer and CEO of Playground, confirmed the show’s renewal and praised the characters in All Creatures Great and Small for representing the best of humanity.

“Kindness and decency are increasingly rare qualities these days… There are no villains in ‘All Creatures’ — just everyday folk trying to get through the day with dignity with the help of a supportive community, family, and friends. It’s a lesson for modern times,” said Callender.
