Amazon started plotting potential follow-ups to several hit MGM titles after acquiring this studio, and Legally Blonde is the first one in line! Amazon MGM Studios is plotting a spin-off series based on the beloved 2000s comedy, produced by its leading lady Reese Witherspoon.

Gossip Girl developers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are writing the script for the upcoming spin-off series. They’ll also be credited as executive producers with Hello Sunshine’s Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter, plus the Legally Blonde producer Marc Platt.

It’s still too early to tell what to expect from this project since Amazon didn’t share any plot details, but this may not be their only spin-off set in the Legally Blonde universe. They’re reportedly plotting another series, which hasn’t been green-lit yet since it’s still in the preliminary stages.

Legally Blonde cemented its status as one of the defining 2000s comedies over the course of the past two decades and became a true cultural phenomenon. The tale of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who applies to the Harvard Law School to get back at her ex, inspired a sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, and Amazon MGM Studios is currently plotting the third film in the franchise starring Witherspoon.
