The future of Mr. & Mrs. Smith has been in limbo for quite some time, but we finally know what it has in store. Amazon Prime Video renewed the hit spy series starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine for Season 2, but it’s possible they won’t return for another adventure by each other’s side.
Inspired by the 2005 action comedy of the same name, Mr. & Mrs. Smith follows two strangers who are brought together by a mysterious agency. They must embrace their new identities in an arranged marriage and complete dangerous missions all around the world.
In addition to Glover and Erskine in the lead role, the first season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith featured an impressive roster of guest stars, including Alexander Skarsgård, Eiza González, Paull Dano, Michaela Coel, Ron Perlman, Sarah Paulson, and more. Variety reports they’re not expected to return for Season 2, but Amazon is yet to confirm these rumors.
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, said they’re excited to announce that the second season of this groundbreaking spy series is in the works during Amazon’s recent Upfront presentation
“The success of the first season, with its incredibly modern, se-y reinvention of the original film, is a testament to the brilliant creators Donald Glover and Francesa Sloane. We are proud to bring you another season filled with unforgettable journeys and new adventures,” said Salke in a statement.
