E. Lockhart’s hit young adult novel We Were Liars is finally getting its TV adaptation, and this project just rounded out its young cast. Emily Alyn Lind, Shubham Maheshwari, Esther McGregor, and Joseph Zada will play the titular “liars” in this Amazon Prime Video drama.
We Were Liars has been described as “a tragic love story and an amnesia thriller set on a privately owned island off the coast of Massachusetts”, which follows a wealthy, seemingly perfect Sinclair family, who spend every summer there.
Emily Alyn Lind (Gossip Girl) will play Cadence, the eldest Sinclair granddaughter, who’s effortlessly clever and adventurous and has a knack for dramatic storytelling. Newcomer Shubham Maheshwari will play her love interest Gat, a thoughtful, ambitious, and intelligent New York City kid with an edge, who feels out of place amongst Martha’s Vineyard’s elite.
Esther McGregor (High School) and Joseph Zada (Total Control) will play Cadence’s older cousins Johnny and Mirren. Johnny is charismatic, dirty-minded, and occasionally reckless, while Mirren has been described as a wickedly funny and keenly observant artist who is too worried about being perfect to color outside the lines.
They join Mamie Gummer, Caitlin FitzGerald, Candice King, David Morse, and Asher Ali in this Amazon Prime Video series, which hails from co-writers and executive producers Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie.
