Giancarlo Esposito continued his partnership with AMC with the lead role in Parish, but their latest project together was short-lived. This crime drama mostly flew under everyone’s radar, and AMC eventually decided to cancel it after a single season.

Based on Danny Brocklehurst’s BBC series The Driver, Parish centered on a man with a troubled past, who left the life of crime behind to become a family man. He goes back to his old ways after his son is violently murdered, embarking on a relentless quest with dangerous consequences in an attempt to avenge him.

AMC released an official statement announcing the show’s cancelation and thanked Giancarlo Esposito and the rest of the cast and crew for their hard work:

“We’re so proud of Parish, and thankful for the creative talent involved and the performances they were able to bring to the screen… We are unfortunately unable to proceed with a second season, but Season 1 will remain available on AMC+ to fans who want to relive this thrill-ride-of-a-series and those yet to discover it.”

In addition to Esposito in the lead role, Parish also starred Zackary Momoh, Paula Malcomson, Skeet Ulrich, Ivan Mbakop, Bonnie Mbuli, Arica Himmel, and Dax Rey. It ran on AMC for six episodes this spring, and its cancelation can be attributed to mixed ratings and low viewership numbers.
