Ryan Murphy’s American Story franchise is constantly expanding, and its next chapter is just around the corner. FX dropped the trailer for the first season of American Sports Story, which will chronicle the rise and fall of a disgraced NFL star Aaron Hernandez.
American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez is based on the hit podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc., and it “charts the rise and fall of NFL superstar Aaron Hernandez and explores the disparate strands of his identity, his family, his career, his suicide and their legacy in sports and American culture”, according to its official logline.
Josh Andrés Rivera, the star of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and West Side Story, will lead the series as the former New England Patriots tight end. He spent three seasons with the team, but his promising career came to an abrupt ending after he was arrested and charged with murder.
In addition to Rivera in the lead role, this series will also star Patrick Schwarzenegger, Lindsay Mendez, Jaylen Barron, Ean Castellanos, Tammy Blanchard, Tony Yazbeck, Thomas Sadoski, Jake Cannavale, and Norbert Leo Butz.
American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez will feature ten episodes, airing weekly on FX following the two-episode premiere on September 17.
