Disney+ dropped some amazing news during a recent D23 experience in Brazil, including major casting info concerning Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The second season of this hit fantasy series is underway, and Andra Day is the latest major star to join the cast in the role of Athena.
Day tuned in via short video, sending a message to Percy Jackson fans during D23 in Brazil, and revealing she’ll be a part of the Season 2 ensemble. Shortly after revealing her casting, Disney+ shared a photo of Day in character as Athena, wearing a yellow jumpsuit and posing alongside Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase.
Day isn’t the only new cast member joining this series in Season 2. In addition to the leading trio Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri, the show’s next season will also star Daniel Diemer as Percy’s cyclops half-brother Tyson, Tamara Smart as Zeus’ daughter Thalia Grace, plus Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, and Margaret Cho as the Gray Sisters.
Andra Day is a Grammy-winning singer, who made a transition to acting with the leading role in The United States vs. Billie Holiday. She won a Golden Globe and received an Oscar nomination for her performance in this biopic, and went on to star in Lee Daniels’ horror The Deliverance and indie drama Exhibiting Forgiveness.
