Patricia Highsmith’s novel The Talented Mr. Ripley already produced one hit adaptation, and another one is just around the corner. Netflix dropped the atmospheric, black-and-white trailer for the upcoming limited series Ripley, led by Andrew Scott in the titular role.

This limited series will take us on a suspense-filled journey in Italy during the ‘60s, and here’s what it has in store according to Netflix’s official logline:

“Tom Ripley is a grifter scraping by in early ‘60s New York. He’s hired by a wealthy industrialist to travel to Italy to try to convince the man’s dilettante son, Dickie Greenleaf, to return home. Accepting the job is Tom’s first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud, and murder.”

In addition to Scott (Fleabag, All of Us Strangers) in the titular role, Ripley will also star Johnny Flynn (Emma), Dakota Fanning (The Alienist), John Malkovich (The New Pope), Margherita Buy (Exterior Night), and I Blame Coco singer Eliot Sumner.

Ripley has been created for Netflix by Steven Zaillian (The Night Of), and it draws inspiration from Patricia Highsmith’s beloved novel The Talented Mr. Ripley, which already produced a hit adaptation starring Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jude Law. It will premiere on Netflix on April 4 and feature eight episodes.
