Anna Faris Exits “Mom” After Seven Seasons

Allison Janney and Anna Faris in "Mom"

The amazing chemistry between Anna Faris and Allison Janney transformed Mom into one of the most beloved sitcoms on TV, but the eighth season of this show will look quite different. Faris decided to exit the series to “pursue new opportunities”, leaving Janney as a solo lead.

In the official statement announcing her departure, Faris described the past seven years as some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of her career and thanked Chuck Lorre for entrusting her with the key role on this show.

“I’m so thankful to Chuck, the writers, and my amazing castmates for creating a truly wonderful work experience. While my journey as Christy has come to an end, allowing me to pursue new opportunities, I’ll be watching next season and rooting for my TV family,” said Faris.

Over the course of the past seven seasons, Mom followed a journey of a newly sober single mother trying to pull her life together while rebuilding a relationship with her wayward mother. Allison Janney, who received two consecutive Emmys for her performance on this show, will take on the lead role after Faris’ exit.
