Apple TV+ is plotting the adaptation of Marissa Stapley’s bestselling novel Lucky, and they found a perfect person to lead this project. Anya Taylor-Joy has been tapped to play the lead role in this series, which she’ll also executive produce alongside Reese Witherspoon.

Lucky has been described as a “thrilling roller-coaster ride about a heist gone terribly wrong”, and it centers on a young grifter trying to leave the life of crime behind until she’s forced to face her dark past.

Jonathan Tropper and Cassie Pappas created this series for Apple TV+ and serve as its showrunners. They’re also executive-producing it alongside Taylor-Joy, who’s looking forward to partnering up with Reese Witherspoon’s company Hello Sunshine.

“Hello Sunshine continues to do a fantastic job of championing women’s voices and I’m thrilled to be joining the team alongside Jonathan, Cassie, and Apple TV+ to bring Lucky to life,” Taylor-Joy said in a statement.

Anya Taylor-Joy shifted her focus to film in recent years, starring in such acclaimed projects as Emma, The Menu, Last Night in Soho, and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, but she’s no stranger to leading successful TV shows. She’s the Golden Globe-winning and Emmy-nominated star of The Queen’s Gambit, and she’ll reunite with Netflix for the upcoming series How to Kill Your Family.
