The first season of Criminal Record mostly flew under everyone’s radar, but Apple TV+ is still putting full trust in its future. The streamer renewed the British thriller series led by Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo.

Criminal Record was created for Apple TV+ by Paul Rutman, and it centers on Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty (Capaldi) and Detective Sergeant June Lenker (Jumbo), two brilliant but very different detectives who clash while trying to solve an old murder case.

Season 2 will open with June Lenker on the scene of the crime when a violent clash at a political rally leaves a young man dead.

“Consumed with guilt, [June] is desperate to bring the unknown killer to justice. It seems as if her best hope is Daniel Hegarty, now a key figure in the shadowy world of police intelligence. He may have the answers she needs but to get his help she will have to accept a dangerous bargain,” reads the Season 2 logline.

In addition to the leading duo, the first season of this series starred Zoë Wanamaker, Charlie Creed-Miles, Cathy Tyson, Stephen Campbell Moore, and Shaun Dooley. The next chapter will be shot on location in London, and it remains unclear if any of the supporting players are coming back for round two.
