Apple TV+ has given us one of their most delightful new series in the past few years with Schmigadoon!, but all good things must come to an end. The musical comedy series, led by Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key, has been canceled after two seasons.

Schmigadoon! was a true love letter to the fans of classic musicals, and it centered on Melissa and Josh, who find themselves magically transported to the mysterious town where everyone acts like they’re in a musical, after getting lost on a backpacking trip.

In addition to Strong and Key in the lead roles, this series also starred Ariana DeBose, Martin Short, Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, and Aaron Tveit.

Co-creator Cinco Paul confirmed the show’s cancelation on Instagram and thanked everyone who helped bring it to life.

“I want to thank everyone involved with the show, our incredible cast and crew and writers, our wonderful supporters at Broadway Video, Universal, and Apple, for everything they did to make it happen. It’s a miracle we even got two seasons, honestly, and I’m so grateful we did,” wrote Paul.

Paul wrapped up his statement on a positive note, saying he’s convinced this is “not the end of Schmigadoon… and maybe it’s even a happy beginning.” He also revealed that Season 3 has already been written, along with 25 new songs, ahead of its cancelation.
