This past year has given us many amazing British series, and they finally got their moment in the spotlight at the BAFTA TV Awards. This year’s ceremony was dominated by the female-driven series, with Bad Sisters and Derry Girls taking home two awards each.

Bad Sisters made quite a splash when it premiered on Apple TV+, and it was promptly renewed for its second season last fall. It wasn’t a shocker to see it take the best drama series award home, while its star Anne-Marie Duff was deservedly named the best supporting actress.

As for Derry Girls, the beloved teen sitcom ended its run after three seasons last May, and it dominated the BAFTA TV Awards almost a year after its finale. It defeated the likes of Am I Being Unreasonable?, Big Boys, and Ghosts to be named the best scripted comedy, while Siobhán McSweeney won an acting award for the best female comedy performance.

Kate Wiinslet-starrer I Am… Ruth was also one of the biggest winners of the night, and it collected awards for the best single drama and best actress.

This year’s edition of the British Academy Television Awards was hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan, and it took place in London on May 14.
