Peacock has been plotting a potential Battlestar Galactica reboot for quite some time, but they eventually decided to pull the plug. Sam Esmail’s revival of the popular sci-fi franchise is no longer in development in Peacock, but it will reportedly be shopped to other platforms.

The Battlestar Galactica revival has been in development ever since it was announced as a part of Peacock’s original programming ahead of its launch. Five years have passed since, but the project has never been officially ordered to series, and it’s now looking for a new home.

The reboot was a passion project for Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, who told Deadline that he read a great outline just last October. Peacock even tapped The Sinner creator Derek Simonds to join the series as writer, executive producer, and showrunner back in January, replacing Michael Lesslie, who originally came on board as the writer of the reboot in 2020.

Despite Peacock’s decision to axe this project, Battlestar Galactica isn’t dead in the water just yet. Simonds’s version of the project will now be shopped to other platforms by its studio, Peacock’s NBCUniversal sibling UCP. Esmail Corp’s Sam Esmail and Chad Hamilton join Simonds as executive producers of the latest version.
