Brit Marling Thanks “The OA” Fans for Their Support

OA fans, Brit Marling has heard you.

Netflix decided earlier this month not to renew the sci-fi series, which told the story of Prairie Johnson, a blind woman who returned to her family after 7 years with the ability to see and a miraculous story of where she’d been.

Now calling herself The OA, she recruited a group of people to teach them how to open portals to alternate dimensions.

The cancellation after the second season means that the show was left hanging, with fans starting a campaign to save the series.

SaveTheOA has caught the attention of Marling, who shared a message with fans over social media.

Speaking on behalf of herself and co-creator Zal Batmanglij, the star said, “We’re humbled, to be honest floored, by the outpouring of support for The OA… Your words and images move us deeply. Not because the show must continue, but because for some people its unexpected cancellation begs larger questions about the role of storytelling and its fate inside late capitalism’s push toward consolidation and economies of scale.”

The long post stated that the characters are no longer authoring the story, nor the creators, but rather the fans.
