The Handmaid’s Tale showrunner Bruce Miller gives frustrated fans a clue where to look for hints on the next season.

Miller explains that even though the show isn’t a full adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s book with the same name, her original text is still a guidance for the story.

“She’s our guiding light, and the book, the world that it created, is certainly, we feel… The audience, I think, feels that we’re moving off from the central story, but we spend so much time talking about the things that happen in the book, and what are the next things that might happen.”

Miller then praised Atwood’s ability to create something that can have so much relevance 30 years after it was published: “That’s a miracle of literary genius I don’t think we can even approach.”

So there you have it. If you are one of the many fans frustrated by the season two finale, you might be able to get some of your answers from Atwood’s novel.

If you haven’t caught up on the second season yet, you can watch it now on Hulu.
