Cary Fukunaga is Considering a Second Season of “Maniac”

Director Cary Fukunaga says that he is tempted to do a second season of Maniac.

The man who bought us True Detective, Maniac and the upcoming Bond 25 is considering whether Maniac season two is a good idea. The Netflix limited series was a mind-bending roller-coaster which went down well, but its debatable whether a second series is actually a good idea.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Fukunaga admitted that he is leaning towards creating a sequel to the series.

“When you spend that much time writing and developing these things, they exist in your mind as if real people existed,” he explained. “We can very easily figure out how to continue that story if Netflix wanted to.”

On the other hand, in the context of his brilliant stand-alone first season of True Detective, he clarified that the team had done their best to wrap up the season properly.

“Were it to be turned into other seasons, there are ways to look at sequels. But we weren’t necessarily looking at it in a classic multi-season television way, throwing up a bunch of juicy morsels like bait for people to tune in for another season.”

He added: “We really tried to – as much as possible – satisfyingly end the story by the end.”
