The tale of the monster hunter and vampire slayer Abraham Van Helsing made it to our screens on several occasions, and CBS is working on another adaptation. Van Helsing will return in the new CBS series that puts on modern twist on the timeless story of Dracula’s arch-enemy.

CBS landed the rights for this series after a hotly contested auction, and they’ve gathered a pretty impressive creative team. Jonathan Lee will be writing the series, with Elementary creator Rob Doherty joining him as an executive producer alongside Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman.

According to its official logline, this series will be “a contemporary take on the monster hunter Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, who uses his uniquely inquisitive mind working alongside his ex, relentless FBI special agent Mina Harker, to solve New York City’s most harrowing cases.”

This isn’t the first attempt to bring Abraham Van Helsing to our TV screens. The fantasy horror drama Van Helsing starring Kelly Overton as the female version of the iconic character aired on Syfy for five seasons between 2016 and 2021. Several films inspired by Dracula’s nemesis also made it to the big screen over the years, most notably Stephen Sommers’s Van Helsing from 2004, starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale.
