The beloved police procedural drama NCIS produced countless spin-offs over the years, and another one is on the way! NCIS: Origins got a green light at CBS, and it will tell the origin story of one of the most compelling NCIS characters: Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs.

This spin-off series hails from Mark Harmon and his son Sean Harmon, who are both veteran NCIS producers. Sean Harmon even played a younger version of his father’s character in seven episodes from 2008-2020, but he’ll focus on executive producing duties this time around.

NCIS: Origins will be narrated by Mark Harmon, and it will chronicle Leroy Jethro Gibbs’s early days at the NCIS Camp Pendleton office during the 90s. It will see him paving his way as a newly minted special agent, trying to become a part of a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks.

Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, confirmed this project and added they’re honored to continue the expansion of the NCIS universe in such a unique and unexpected way.

“Viewers can look forward to Mark Harmon returning to CBS to narrate the complex and mysterious backstory of Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ early years in NCIS: Origins, which will build on the rich legacy of this character while reintroducing fan-favorite characters and meeting new ones,” said Reisenbach in a statement.
