The fourth season of The Equalizer will soon reach its end, and fans won’t have to worry about what the future holds after the finale airs. CBS officially renewed the crime drama series led by Queen Latifah for its fifth season.

Based on the 80s spy drama of the same name, The Equalizer centers on Robyn McCall, a former CIA operative and a single mother who uses her extensive skills to become a guardian angel and a defender for people who have nowhere else to turn.

The renewal of The Equalizer doesn’t come as a shocker since Season 4 attracted pretty solid ratings, averaging 7.89 million linear viewers. Season 5 was officially confirmed after CBS closed a deal with the leading lady and executive producer Queen Latifah, and the next season will reportedly return to the 18-episode count.

Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, confirmed that The Equalizer would be back for another ride and praised its creative team for transforming it into one of the most compelling shows on CBS.

The Equalizer, led by the incomparable Queen Latifah, has all the best elements of a powerful drama. The series is stacked with suspense, heroism, high stakes, and formidable characters our audience roots for. We look forward to another dynamic season,” said Reisenbach in a statement.
