After finding success with the CBS sitcom The Neighborhood, Cedric the Entertainer is plotting another promising project with this network. He’ll serve as one of the producers of the upcoming comedy series Token White Friends, which will reunite him with some of his The Neighborhood partners.
Token White Friends has been described as a multi-camera series “about parenthood, culture clashes, and why it’s problematic for a seven-year-old white kid to wear cornrows.” It’s based on the true story of a Black couple who decided to reach out to their estranged white college friends and ask them to be a part of their village after adopting a white child.
Josh Greenberg (Not Dead Yet), Jordan Black (The Wonder Years), and Jon Haller (30 Rock) serve as writers of this series, and they’re also executive producing it alongside Cedric The Entertainer and Eric Rhone via A Bird and Bear Entertainment, Aaron Kaplan via Kapital Entertainment, and Wendi Trilling via TrillTV.
This project will reunite Cedric The Entertainer with several EPs who also worked on his CBS series The Neighborhood, including Kaplan, Rhone, and Trilling. This series has been running on CBS for seven seasons, and it centers on a well-meaning Midwestern guy whose family has to make some adjustments after moving to a predominantly Black neighborhood in California.
