The Curse is one of the most polarizing TV shows to air in recent years, but it managed to find a fan in one of the world’s most acclaimed directors. Christopher Nolan recently revealed he’s a huge fan of the Showtime series, adding it’s unlike anything he’s seen on television before.

The Curse stars Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder as a newlywed couple and hosts of a successful HGTV show Fliplanthrophy. They start believing their relationship has been hit by a curse after struggling to bring their vision for eco-friendly housing to a small New Mexico town.

Fielder co-created the show alongside Benny Safdie, who recently starred in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, and the acclaimed director praised their work during a recent Q&A.

“Congratulations on an incredible show that’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen on television before. There are so few shows that come along that genuinely have no precedence. I mean, you’re going back to things like Twin Peaks or The Prisoner or Dennis Potter’s Singing Detective,” said Nolan, before adding he can’t wait “to catch up with the climax.”

While moderating the panel, Nolan also said that a show like The Curse could only be made during “the anarchy of the streaming era” and added that the tone is its true star.
