Cobra Kai is ending its run next year, but the door remains open for some of its most iconic characters to return. The creative trio behind this series is open to working on more spin-offs once the original show ends its run, including one that chronicles Mr. Miyagi’s origin story.
Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai. They were asked about the potential of working on new spin-offs, and said they’ve been thinking about the idea of following these characters both into the future and back to the past.
“We think about the fun of following them in their futures and in, addition, we think about the past. It is one of the reasons why we did the Miyagi box story this season. It opens up all these questions about Mr. Miyagi and what his life was like,” said Schlossberg.
Schlossberg also revealed that they’ve discussed Mr. Miyagi’s backstory with Robert Mark Kamen, the writer of the original Karate Kid. He helped them dive deeper into Mr. Miyagi’s arc, and they’re open to exploring it further once they close the Cobra Kai chapters.
The sixth and final season of Cobra Kai will be split into three parts. Part 1 premiered on July 18, Part 2 will arrive on November 15, while Part will debut sometime in 2025.
