Colin Farrell did a great job transforming into the Penguin in the superhero blockbuster The Batman, and he’s getting ready to do it again! The Oscar-nominated actor is back as one of Gotham’s most formidable villains in the first trailer for Max’s spin-off series The Penguin.

This spin-off will take us weeks after the events of The Batman, and it will reunite us with Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot aka the Penguin. Lauren LeFranc-created series will capture his rise to power and see him becoming one of the most notorious villains of Gotham’s underworld.

Farrell revealed what we can expect from this series in a recent interview with MovieZine, and described it as really dark and heavy.

“It’s one man’s rise to what he’s always dreamed of inhabiting, which is a certain power or social status. The death of Carmine Falcone at the end of the film leaves this vacuum in Gotham to be filled, and so there are various people that are grabbing for that power,” said Farrell.

The supporting cast of The Penguin will include Cristin Milioti as Carmine Falcone’s daughter Sofia, Michael Zegen as her brother Alberto, and Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni. The eight-episode series is coming to Max this year, and its release date is yet to be set.
