Amazon Prime Video’s new series Young Sherlock will tell the origin story of everyone’s favorite detective, and its cast will be one star-studded affair. Oscar winner Colin Firth just joined the cast of this promising series, which will be led by Hero Fiennes Tiffin.
Based on Andy Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes books, this series centers on 19-year-old Sherlock Holmes during his time at Oxford University. He’s disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed when he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery that will forever change the course of his life.
Young Sherlock has been developed for Amazon Prime Video by writer, executive producer, and showrunner Matthew Parkhill, while Guy Ritchie is coming on board as a director and one of the EPs.
Hero Fiennes Tiffin has previously been cast in the titular role, and he’ll be in pretty good company. Joseph Fiennes and Natascha McElhone will play his parents, Zine Tseng joined them as Princess Gulun Shou’an, while Firth was cast as Sir Bucephalus Hodge.
The Oscar-winning star of The King’s Speech made a successful TV comeback with his Emmy-nominated performance in the crime drama The Staircase. He’s gearing up to lead the limited series Lockerbie, the true story inspired by one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in the history of the UK.
