Colin Firth made a successful transition to television with the role in the crime drama The Staircase, and he’s ready for more! The Oscar-winning actor is set to lead another true-life drama—Sky and Peacock‘s limited series Lockerbie.

Lockerbie takes place in the aftermath of the Lockerbie air disaster, which killed 259 passengers and crew of Pan Am Flight 103 in 1988. The aircraft crashed down over the quiet Scottish town of Lockerbie after a bomb detonated on board, killing 11 local residents along the way.

Firth will play Dr Jim Swire, who lost his daughter Flora in the crash and went on to become the spokesperson for the families of British victims. He embarked on a relentless journey across continents, demanding truth and justice for victims, losing trust in the justice system along the way.

Sky’s official logline describes this series as “an intimate account of a man, a husband, and a father who risks everything in memory of his daughter and the unflinching pursuit of truth and justice.”

The five-part series is adapted from the book The Lockerbie Bombing: A Father’s Search for Justice, which Swire co-wrote with Peter Biddulph. Scottish playwright David Harrower (Blackbird) will serve as lead writer, with Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders) coming on board as the lead director.
