The Last of Us gave us one of its best episodes so far with “Long, Long Time”, which put the side characters Bill and Frank front and center. Fans of the show were hoping to see them return at some point, but co-creator Craig Mazin ruled out their potential comeback.
“Long, Long Time” shifted the focus from Pedro Pascal’s Joel and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie to the fan-favorite characters Bill and Frank, played by Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett. A paranoid survivalist Bill reluctantly took Frank in in the middle of apocalypse, and they developed a strong connection that helped them survive the darkest of days.
Offerman recently picked up an Emmy for his guest role in this project, and joked about the possibility for returning in a prequel about Bill and Frank, which could be a musical. The Last of Us co-creator Craig Mazin recently discussed the potential spin-off with Deadline, and shut down the idea of exploring Bill and Franks’ life before the outbreak.
“I’m very proud of the episode we did with Bill and Frank. There won’t be more Bill and Frank… Nick was joking about a prequel, that was kind of a joke. We are very happy with what we achieved,” said Mazin.
