Becoming Karl Lagerfeld is coming to Disney+ this June, but the prestige mini-series already had its world premiere at Canneseries. The leading man Daniel Brühl had the time of his life transforming into the iconic fashion designer, and he reflected on the experience in an interview with Variety.

Becoming Karl Lagerfeld will take us to the early 70s Paris, when Lagerfeld was still an unknown ready-to-wear designer, trying to break into the Parisian couture scene. The series will capture clashes of egos, grandiose parties, and destructive passions that defined Lagerfeld’s rise to prominence.

Daniel Brühl had to master many skills to portray the iconic designer, from speaking fluent French to walking in his signature small heels. He told Variety that he felt a huge responsibility to do a good job, especially since it’s a gift to be offered such a fascinating role.

“I wanted to give this character as much complexity and truth and honesty and love and passion as I possibly could. And then this is a thrilling, sometimes intimidating process if you have to play someone like him. It was like a rollercoaster,” explained Brühl.

Becoming Karl Lagerfeld will be released on Disney+ on June 28, and it will feature a total of six episodes.
