Diane Lane has signed on to star in FX’s “Y: The Last Man,” alongside Barry Keoghan, Imogen Poots, Lashana Lynch, Marin Ireland and Juliana Canfield, according to Variety.

The drama series, simply titled as “Y,” is based on DC Comics by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra.  It traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event has decimated every male mammal save for one lone human. The new world order of women will explore gender, race, class and survival.

Lane will portray the role of Senator Jennifer Brown, a junior senator in her first term who already made a name for herself in political circles for her eagerness to put personal ideals above politics. She’s also Yorick and Hero Brown’s mother.

Keoghan will play Yorick Brown, a young man quick to use humor to deflect from his problems who may be the lone male survivor of a worldwide plague. While Poots play the role of Hero Brown, Yorick’s sister. She is described to be a tough and confident EMT who nurses a deep emotional trauma that often leads her to cross personal and professional lines.

Meanwhile, Lynch is Secret Service Agent 355, who does her job professionally even under the most unpredicted circumstances. Ireland will play Nora, the president’s senior assistant and right hand. Lastly, Canfield will be Beth, a Brooklyn-based knife maker who grew up on a farm and went to New York to experience the city life. She has a romantic connection to Yorick.

Michael Green and Aida Mashaka Croal are the co-showrunners on the project, and will also executive produce along with Vaughan, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force. Melina Matsoukas will direct the pilot and also serve as an executive producer.
