Renegade Nell struggled to make a splash after premiering on Disney+ this spring, and its run has been pretty short. The adventures of Nell Jackson are coming to an end after the streaming giant canceled this historical fantasy series after a single season.
According to its official logline, Renegade Nell centered on Nell Jackson, “a quick-witted and courageous young woman [who] finds herself framed for murder and unexpectedly becomes the most notorious outlaw in 18th-century England.”
This series was supposed to serve as the star vehicle for the Darry Girls actress Louisa Harland, who played the titular role. Joely Richardson, Adrian Lester, Nick Mohammed, Craig Parkinson, Frank Dillane, Alice Kremelberg, and Pip Torrens joined her in supporting roles.
Renegade Nell was canceled after failing to meet the threshold for a Disney+ renewal based on several metrics, according to Deadline. The streamer released a statement announcing its cancelation and expressed hope they’ll get to work with its cast and crew in the future.
“We’re incredibly proud of the world created by Sally Wainwright and lead director Ben Taylor. We’d like to thank them, our production partners at Lookout Point, the entire cast – led by Louisa Harland – and crew for their incredible work on this series,” reads a statement by a Disney+ spokesperson.
