The long-rumored series has been confirmed.

Disney+ has announced that an Obi-Wan Kenobi series is officially en route and will be shot in 2020. The news was confirmed Friday at the D23 Expo in Anaheim.

“It feels so nice to say,” Star Wars star Ewan McGregor said.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy told Entertainment Weekly, “Internally, we’ve wanted this for so long, but we know how much the fans want it too. And we know we have to get it right.”

She added that McGregor “wanted to come back, and he’s so excited to play the character of Obi-Wan again. He really does embody who Obi-Wan is. And to think that Alec Guinness was really his mentor and now he’s stepping into those shoes for this series, it’s really exciting.”

The scripts have been written and production date announced, but no launch date for the Obi-Wan spinoff has been announced.
