Donald Glover took over from Brad Pitt in the Mr. & Mrs. Smith remake, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video to rave review this week. Putting a new twist on the hit action comedy wasn’t an easy task for Glover, and he even reached out to Pitt to ask him for pointers.

Glover discussed the making of the Mr. & Mrs. Smith series with Entertainment Tonight at the show’s premiere. He admitted reaching out to Brad Pitt, who co-starred in Doug Liman’s original film alongside Angelina Jolie, in an attempt to get a better understanding of this story.

“Brad was like, you know, he just Brad Pitt-ed his way out of it. I was like, ‘I just need some tips,’ and he just charmed his way out of it. He was like, ‘Oh, you’ll do great, kid.’ That kind of thing… I mean, he was very, very sweet and nice and that was very helpful,” said Glover.

Glover co-created Mr. & Mrs. Smith for Amazon with Francesca Sloane, and he plays one of the titular roles alongside Maya Erskine. Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, Michaela Coel, John Turturro, Paul Dano, Alexander Skarsgård, and Eiza González also star.

All eight episodes of Mr. & Mrs. Smith premiered on Amazon Prime Video on February 2.
