Eddie Murphy Gives “SNL” Its Best Ratings in Two Years

Eddie Murphy’s return to the live skit show was a ratings hit. 

Multiple outlets confirm the latest installment of Saturday Night Live boasted the show’s biggest ratings in two and a half years. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show delivered a 2.5 rating in adults 18-49 and 9.921 million viewers overall in Live+Same Day.

The episode saw the return of the former SNL star as host after more than two decades, with his last performance being in 1984. It also featured breakout star Lizzo as the musical guest, and appearances by Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Tracy Morgan, Alec Baldwin, Larry David, Maya Rudolph, Jason Sudeikis, Fred Armisen, and Rachel Dratch. 

The episode beat a May 2017 installment for the highest-scoring and most-viewed episode of SNL. That episode hosted by Melissa McCarthy with musical guest HAIM averaged a 2.7 rating in adults 18-49 and attracted 10.382 million viewers overall.
