Peacock green-lit Susanna Fogel’s Cold War drama Ponies, and they found a perfect person to play one of the lead roles. Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke will lead this series as one of two women who find themselves working for the CIA following their husband’s deaths in the USSR.
Ponies will take us to Moscow during the 1970s and center on wives of two ponies aka “persons of no interest” working for the American Embassy, who become CIA operatives following their husband’s mysterious deaths.
“Bea (Clarke) is an over-educated, Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants. Her cohort, Twila, is a small-town girl who is as abrasive as she is fearless. Together, they work to uncover a vast Cold War conspiracy and solve the mystery that made them widows in the first place,” reads the show’s official logline.
Ponies was created for Peacock by Susanna Fogel and David Iserson, who are also coming on board as EPs alongside Clarke, Jessica Rhoades, Alison Mo Massey, and Katherine Bridle. Iserson will serve as showrunner, while Fogel will direct the series.
Clarke is the four-time Emmy-nominated star of Game of Thrones. She recently starred in Marvel’s series Secret Invasion on Disney+, and will next be seen in Amazon Prime Video’s crime drama Criminal.
