Several S-x Education stars exited the hit teen series in recent months and one of the show’s biggest stars just joined the pack. While discussing her plans for the future in a recent interview, Emma Mackey confirmed she won’t be coming for Season 5.

Mackey picked up the Rising Star Award at the BAFTAs on Sunday night, and she dropped quite a bombshell in one of the interviews. She discussed her future plans with Radio Times and revealed that the upcoming fourth season of S-x Education will most likely be her last.

“Season 5? I’ve just finished the fourth one last week! No, I don’t think I’ll be in season 5. I’ve said goodbye to Maeve… [The fourth season] feels very familiar! And it’s a bit more sporadic because we have more characters. So there’s… I’m not in it as consistently,” revealed Mackey.

Mackey’s exit makes us wonder if Season 4 will mark the end of this beloved teen series since it already lost many of its beloved cast members. Simone Ashley, Tanya Reynolds, and Patricia Allison exited the series ahead of Season 4, while Ncuti Gatwa announced that the fourth season will be his last.

Mackey’s exit won’t stop her career from blossoming. She’s fresh off the success of playing Emily Brontë in the acclaimed biopic Emily, and she’ll star in Barbie alongside Margot Robbie later this year.
